Used Auto Parts: The Low Down on How Much CAN They Save You?
So—you’re curious about used auto parts and the savings they bring. We’ve got an answer for you, BUT, know that we’re talking about a general rule of thumb. Each part needs to be priced out on a part-by-part basis. For an exact quote, simply give us a call—we’ll give you an honest price on the exact part that you need.
Used auto parts are generally between 30% to 70% off retail. The price varies greatly as part prices depend on a few things…
1. The Make and Model of Car
The make and model of the car is the biggest factor in determining the price. The more common the car, the cheaper the price generally is. This is because we keep a large stock of late-model cars on our huge lot—but we, and other auto recyclers, gravitate towards the most common models of car since they are the ones that are asked for the most. If you have a less common car, like a Fiat or Smart car—well, it’ll drive down the availability and drive up the price.
2. The Year
The older the part, the cheaper it may be—however this is also a generalization. If the car is so old that you bought it in 1974, then it is a little more rare (read: more expensive). The ‘sweet spot’ in car years for auto recyclers is between 5-15 years old.
3. Current Availability
While availability is closely correlated to the make, model and year of the car—availability also ebbs and flows. Checking current availability is important to the process. The lower the quantity of the part and the harder to find it is—the more they will cost.
4. Warranty
Not all auto recyclers have the same warranty. Some offer just 30 days. We offer 60—and additional extended warranties of 6 months, 1 year and 5 years! The longer the warranty the greater the additional cost (although even with an extended warranty they still offer significant savings to new parts).
